The Prime Minister’s appeal to the nation through the publication of a half-page advertisement on Sept. 17. It is the duty of every political party, spiritual and religious organisation to issue similar appeals through the media to maintain peace and order after the judgment. People are fed up with the politicisation of religious and spiritual matters.
It is equally gratifying to note that the BJP has admitted to the RSS and the VHP that it was A MISTAKE for it to have politicised the Ram temple issue “VHP plans ‘dharma sansad’ on judgment day. Another report “Hindus, Muslims agree to have temple next to mazar in U.P.” (Sept. 17) should be an eye-opener to the religious leaders involved in the Ramjanmabhumi-Babri Masjid issue.
Dr. Singh are a sad commentary on the political and judicial system. It has taken 18 years for the government to take the first step towards solving the Ayodhya dispute and it says it need not be the final step. It seems to suggest that the expected verdict is only a legal formality.
With worry and speculation prevailing in the run-up to the High Court judgment, we must look towards with the example created by the villagers of Duswakalan in Uttar Pradesh.
